The Aleph Course

The Aleph Course for Biblical Hebrew

In 2011 I attended the Aleph Course. Karen Strijker was my teacher. I was greatly moved and impressed by what I learned about this language, but especially by what I learned about the Bible and about God. When I heard that the course leaders were looking for people to train to also teach the Aleph Course, I knew this was for me. In the meantime I have given quite a few courses in Zwolle and the surrounding area and it is always great to introduce people to the richness of this language. On this page I will tell you more about the Aleph Course.

Anyone who knows Hebrew has direct access to an inexhaustible Source: the Hebrew Bible. The closer to the source, the better the water! That applies to every source text, but very specifically for the Hebrew Bible: a unique masterpiece of world literature. Thanks to translation buckets, no matter how good, much of the quality and taste of this unique work of art is lost. Nothing beats the original Hebrew text!

Become empowered

The Aleph Course is a unique method to acquire so much Hebrew knowledge in a very short time, so that one can independent of learned intermediaries do Bible word study: Learning Hebrew makes people empowered.

A letter story

The methodology of the Aleph Course is based, among other things, on the fact that each letter has a name with a meaning: Aleph means “first fruits”, “pioneer” and “front runner” and Beth literally means house. The 22 letter names can be combined into a unique story. In this course, the letters form three biblical histories, namely the exoduses from Ur (the birth house), Egypt (service house) and Babel (own house) were chosen.

For everyone

The Aleph course is a good stepping stone for further Hebrew language study. But also for those who are not after that, who do not feel like studying grammar, the Aleph course in 8 lessons is very worthwhile. Hebrew is a unique phenomenon, an unprecedented playful language: there is no second! Moreover, the biblical language is inextricably linked to biblical thinking, which differs radically from ancient paganism and also from modern, “Greek” thinking, which often grips us.
